TFT: You Need a News Coach

February 19, 2023

Dear LEFC Parents,

We’re one month away from the LEFC Wild Game Dinner with outdoorsman Mark Ledford. Some of our families use it every year as a chance to do something fun and inspirational together–especially fathers and sons who love the great outdoors. Consider how you might get involved–even to serve alongside each other.

Here are some other key things to keep in mind this week:

Worldview Training for Youth

The youth group meets again TONIGHT to learn more about how to discuss Christianity with their friends. You are invited to come with them!

The Gospel Project at Home

Today’s Bible Study: Saul Sinned and Was Rejected (Volume 3, Unit 10, Lesson 3). Show your kids the lesson video as a review and reinforcement.

And for Dessert…

This week’s resource for family discipleship is “Concurrently: The News Coach Podcast,” a brand new audio resource from World News Group.

I (Pastor Matt) wish we had had a “News Coach” when we were raising our kids. There are so many daunting headlines rushing at us every day, and we need help to slow down, make careful observations, analyze things from a biblical perspective, and confidently respond with faith and not fear.

Kelsey Reed is the “News Coach,” and in each episode of Concurrently, along with her co-host Jonathan Boes, she tackles current events in the news and helps parents with “tools and tips for cultivating news literacy and a non-anxious learning environment through a Christian worldview.”

I (Pastor Matt) have listened to all 6 episodes so far and think they are very thoughtful and helpful:

– Extraordinary times call for ordinary measures
– TikTok influencers and the weight of glory
– Video gaming and creation rhythms
– A process for evaluating shifting words and meanings
– ChatGPT and the gift of work
– Mental health crisis and means of grace

Check it out and tell us what you think. We hope your family eats it up.
