The Family Table
Feeding the Faith of LEFC Families
TFT: The Grey Havens
June 19, 2023
Dear LEFC Parents,
Here are some items on the agenda for the days ahead:
The Gospel Project at Home
Today’s Bible Study is “Joash Wanted to Obey God” (Volume 5: Unit 14: Session 1). Ask your kids what they learned in children’s church this morning and/or do the family devotional you can find at this link.
Snack and Yack
Snack and Yack will continue throughout Pastor Matt’s sabbatical. When the auditorium empties after worship, girls and boys (grades 3-7) who listened to the sermon (remember to fill out a handout!) are invited to Pastor Matt’s office for a tasty treat and a brief discussion with one of the LEFC elders (and sometimes guest preachers?!) about the message. Parents, if you would like to help host the discussion by providing the snack, see Holly Crumrine to get involved.
Save the Date for Family Bible Week!
Family Bible Week will start on July 10th this summer! Make sure to mark your calendar, arrange your work schedule, and schedule your vacation with it in mind. See Holly Crumrine to get involved.
And for Dessert…
The Grey Havens is a singer-songwriter husband-wife duo celebrating 10 years of storytelling through music. Our family first heard them when they were starting (easy to remember because our oldest son attended a house concert with us asleep in his car seat). We continue to enjoy their joyful, honest, and creative storytelling. A good example is their song “Train Station”, telling about the free gift of love and redemption God offers us, available through his sacrifice.
Their name is a reference from The Lord of the Rings to the elvish city beyond the ocean where elves go instead of dying. Their style of worship and evangelism follows Tolkein’s, using metaphor and stories to convey deeper truths about life, God, and our relationship with him. Their EP remains my favorite, Where Eyes Don’t Go (available on YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music), but I’ve been enjoying their more recent Blue Flowers album too.
If you check out their website, you can find a link to a free streaming concert they’re performing this weekend that’s available to view through June 21st. We sure hope to watch! I also discovered through their website that they’ve launched a podcast: another resource to check out! AND, if you find that you enjoy their first album, especially the song “Gray Flowers”, there’s a children’s book to go along with it. We own it and love it – colorful, simple storytelling with a message about love, grace, and redemption. We hope this is a blessing to your whole family.
