LEFC Guide to Worship – 13 June 2021

LEFC Guide to Worship

Lanse Evangelical Free Church

From the Pastor

Dear Church Family,

Keep praying!

I wonder how many times I’ve said that in the last 15 months? I know that “Keep praying!” has been a constant sign-off in my copious emails to the Church Elders Team, and I’m perpetually asking others to continue to pray for us as we navigate uncharted territory as a congregation.

It could be tempting at this point to fall off in prayer. With most COVID-restrictions lifted or lifting soon in our area, and things returning to some semblance of “normal” at church, it can be easy to begin to just coast along and stop being fervent in prayer.

But we can’t afford to let off the gas pedal of prayer (Romans 12:11-12). We are still needy of God’s hand of protection, provision, and direction. Our Psalm for this weekend reminds us to earnestly seek and long for God’s presence and help. Psalm 63 tells us to cling to God with our very souls (v.8).

Keep praying! Please continue to pray for the Elders and the rest of our church leaders as we make ministry plans for the remainder of the Summer, including Family Bible Week, the Good News Cruise, and more ways to bring the whole church family closer together in fellowship and full participation. We need the Lord’s wisdom and guidance.

Keep praying! Whether at home or on campus this weekend, let’s do all we can to ensure that every single person in this beloved church family worships Him.

In His Grip,

– Pastor Matt

P.S. Don’t just keep praying; keep singing! “…with singing lips my mouth will praise you” (Psalm 63:5).

Home Worship Guide

1. Welcome to Worship & Worship in Bible Memory

Begin your family’s time of worship by reciting Psalm 100 together:

“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Have someone pray and ask God to bless your time of worship at home.

2. Worship in Singing

As a household sing “All Creatures of Our God and King!” by Francis of Assisi.

3. Worship in Unity

Recite together Question #1 of the Westminster Shorter Catechism (1647-1649).

Q. What is the chief end of man?

A: Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.

**Note: When the WSC says “chief end,” it means “greatest purpose or goal,” and by “man,” the framers of the WSC meant “humanity” or “people.” We exist to glorify and to find our joy in the Lord.

4. Worship in Thanksgiving and Lament

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15).

Share with your family those things you are celebrating and those things you are lamenting this week.

5. Worship in Prayer

Take prayer requests and pray for each other.

Read the prayer guide together and pray for the rest of the church family and the requests listed.

6. Worship in Scripture Reading

Have someone read Psalm 110 to prepare to listen to today’s message.

7. Worship in the Word

Watch or read Pastor Matt’s message, “Your Love Is Better Than Life.”

Read Message Manuscript

[The message will be available online by Sunday morning.]

Some families may want to watch/read the message on their own and then have a Bible study and discussion together during this time.

8. Worship in Singing

Sing “As the Deer” by Martin J. Nystrom

9. Worship All Week

Have someone pray a prayer of commissioning for your family as you end this time of gathered worship and face a week of new opportunities and new challenges to serve the Lord, the church, and the world in His Name.

**Note: We plan to offer the LEFC Guide to Worship at Home throughout the month of June. Please let us know if your family is using them and would like them to continue to be provided in future months.
