Family Bible Week 2026: Coming Up Soon!
Family Bible week is fast approaching! We’ll kickoff the week together next Sunday, June 14th, during church with a kickoff picnic after and gather Monday through Thursday at 6:15 for Bible teaching, singing, fun and fellowship. We’ll be shining a light on who Jesus really is at our Illumination Station! Spread the word and invite your friends, too! Blank postcards are on the table in the foyer for you to use to invite others, and we have created an event on Facebook. We are also still in need of some volunteers in roles such as taking out the trash nightly, church lock-up, and photography. Look over the sign up sheet in the foyer to see where you might be able to meet a need.
Junior Youth Group
We have exciting news for kids who will be in grades 4-6 next year! We’re upgrading Snack and Yack into a brand new ministry: Junior Youth Group! We’re excited to bring students a full evening meeting, not just a few minutes after church, where they can learn, grow, foster friendships, and take new steps in their faith. Beginning May 31st, the Snack and Yack ministry will cease as we prepare to launch our Junior Youth Group in the fall, led by Curtis Quick and Marilynn Kristofits! We encourage you to get your students excited for this brand new ministry. More details are still to come!
Child Protection Policy Rollout
Our new Child Protection Policy rolled out this past week. As part of the rollout, we are now implementing several new measures to more effectively protect kids on our campus. If you were in church today, you noticed several of these, such as our new check in and check out procedures. If you were unable to attend today, be on the lookout for these changes next week. Please see Jordyn Skacel if you have questions and/or concerns relating to our new policies and procedures.
God’s Story: A Summer in the Gospel Together
In this week’s Friday Family Email, Child Discipleship shared a fantastic resource for families to use over the summer. God’s Story: A Summer in the Gospel Together contains family worship guides, activities, and more to keep your family on track this summer. I love that this is intended to be done together as a family, helping parents to engage with their children well. Check it out here!
This Week’s Challenge: Displaying Thankfulness
How often do you hear the words “thank you” in your day? Maybe your coworkers express their thanks when you complete a task at work. Maybe your spouse says thank you when you serve them in the everyday needs around the house. Or maybe your kids express their thanks for packing their lunch, making a special breakfast, or doing their hair just right. Expressing and receiving thanks is a meaningful expression in our relationships.
This week’s challenge is to write your child(ren) a thank you note for something that they have done: taking out the trash when it was full, putting their dishes in the dishwasher, kindly playing with their younger siblings, or even just giving great hugs that brighten your day. Then, make sure to put the notes somewhere that they will see it, such as by their toothbrush, in their car seat, or on their pillow. Once they have opened it, encourage them to write a thank you note, expressing their thanks to someone else. Help them write the note if needed and make it fun: let them decorate it, fold it up in a fun way, or maybe mail it instead of hand-delivering it and let them put it in the mailbox!
“Jesus the Healer” Kids Bible Class Devotional
You have free access to a family devotional based on the curriculum our kids are studying each week in KBC! It’s called “The Gospel Project at Home.” Today’s Bible Study is “Jesus’ Second Miracle” (Volume 8: Unit 22: Session 1), and the devotional can be found at this link.
Visit the Family Ministries page on our website for information about how to access The Gospel Project at Home for the first time.
And for Dessert…
Our recommendation for family discipleship this week is a brand new book by Tim Challies, God’s Great Big Global Church. In preparation for this new book, Tim traveled to 10 countries around the world to get a picture of what the church looks like there. In his writing, he highlights a child in that country and what the spiritual climate looks like around them. What does church look like for them? Are there many other Christians in their country? What are some special things that make their country unique?
I (Jordyn) have greatly enjoyed sharing this book with my boys, and my six-year-old has especially enjoyed reading about new countries that he never knew of before. I appreciate that I can share a snapshot of other cultures with my kids, exposing them to people and ways of life that look very different from what we are used to. I like that not every country in the book is “western,” and not every country is predominantly Christian. Yet, there are faithful believers all around the world who gather to worship the same God that we serve. My kids were curious about the lives of the kids in the book, asking lots of “why” and “how come” questions, and I got to share with them about brothers and sisters in Christ from across the world.
The book also includes prompts to start conversations in your home as a family and connected Bible passages throughout, making it more than just a fun read but also a helpful tool for connection with your children and whole family, and we love that! I encourage you to check it out for yourself and see what interesting things you might learn!
The book will soon be available in our church library. You can also find it from The Good Book.
