Mom’s Night Out: Postponed!

Mom’s Night Out, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed. We will announce a new date when it is rescheduled.

This Week’s Challenge

We’re kicking off trying out a new element in TFT! Each week, we plan to provide a family discipleship “challenge” to implement with your family. The goal is to provide families with an action step to do together to connect with one another and with the Lord. Did you do last week’s challenge of asking your kid(s) for a prayer request and praying for them? This week’s challenge is to play at least one worship song when your family is in the car together this week.

LEFC Christmas Party

Join us after church on December 7th for a Christmas party! Lunch will be provided as we play fun games together and hear about ideas for celebrating the season in your home. Your family won’t want to miss out!

The Family Table Survey: Please give us your input!

As we celebrate The Family Table turning three, we want to hear from you about how it is helpful for your family and how it could be improved. We desire for this resource to be beneficial, so we need to hear from you. Would you please help us out by filling out this brief survey, if you haven’t already done so in church?

“Prophets to Judah” Kids Bible Class Devotional

You have free access to a family devotional based on the curriculum our kids are studying each week in KBC! It’s called “The Gospel Project at Home.” Today’s Bible Study is “Prophets to Judah” (Volume 5: Unit 15: Session 1), and the devotional can be found at this link.

Visit the Family Ministries page on our website for information about how to access The Gospel Project at Home for the first time.

And for Dessert…

Our recommendation for family discipleship this week is a new free adventure game that our kids can play on a mobile device while learning key turning points in the story of Scripture!

“Thorns & thistles have overtaken a world ruled by a Serpent. But an old, mostly forgotten book holds a promise: the Seed of Eve, the only hope for salvation. Are you brave enough to discover the adventure within its pages?”

The creative team at DiscipleshipTech in the UK have built a mobile game to combat biblical illiteracy. Many people don’t know what is in their Bibles and are open to finding out, but they don’t know where to start.

Andy Geers, DiscipleshipTech’s founder, says, “For over two decades, I’ve had a passion to use the medium of mobile games to help people explore the Bible. With this mobile experience we have the opportunity to create something profoundly meaningful that invites people to slow down and ask those deeper questions about life & about ourselves–and ultimately to discover the supreme source of hope that is contained within the Bible’s pages.”

Players of The Serpent and the Seed find themselves in the Garden of Eden and assume the part of a Robin named “Mungo.” As they explore the world, they meet Adam & Eve and find out more about how they got there and the job they have been given to do. The game proceeds from there, hitting many of the highpoints (and lowpoints) of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

The game is free on iOS and Android (tablets and phones) and eventually Windows/Mac. It’s rated 9+ but is designed with younger kids and even adults in mind. It’s creator refers to it as a “cozy game.

I (Pastor Matt) don’t play games on my phone, but I know a lot of folks do, and am intrigued by what I’ve read about it. I first heard about The Serpent and the Seed from one of my all-time favorite bands, Poor Bishop Hooper, who provide the hauntingly beautiful music for the game.

The team also included game designer Dan Gould (formerly of EA and Frontier Development), artist Greg Clifton, award-winning programmers Andy Geers and Jon Collins, lettering by Sophie Killingley of “Perish and Fade”) and script writing by BAFTA award winner Amy Green (“That Dragon Cancer”). I don’t know all of those folks, but they sound impressive!

The reviews are very strong from some people I trust. Brett McCracken at The Gospel Coalition summed it up, “[N]o game has matched the artistry and narrative brilliance of The Serpent and the Seed … A lot of content you might consume on your phone will poison your soul or at least provide ’empty calories’ of wasted time. But nourishing, soul-enriching mobile content exists. The Serpent and the Seed is a prime example.”
