Living the Last Beatitude – 13 January 2019

Our sermon series is called, “Following Jesus” because that’s what we’re learning to do in the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew is a theological biography of the most compelling Person in history–the Person of Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ has called us to follow Him and fish for more followers.

Matthew tells us that Jesus finishes telling the parables that we often call the Parables of the Kingdom. That’s what Matthew 13 has been all about. Parables about the upside-down, inside-out Kingdom of God which has come (much smaller than we might have expected), is coming (much slower than we might have expected, though it’s happening all around us), and will come (much greater than we can ever expect)!  The kingdom is a treasure, and if you find it, you have found everything. If you miss it, you have lost everything, and if you know it, you should share it with everyone. That’s what Jesus has been teaching about in Matthew 13, using parables.  So how do we live because of this?  Expect to Be Rejected. Expect to Be Rewarded.

Pastor Matt preaching on Matthew 13:53-14:12.

Every trial provides us the choice to focus on the problem or to focus on His empowering grace. As we study this week’s passage, we’re going to talk about how focusing on God’s grace and the gospel makes the difference between victory or defeat. Join us for Sunday School at 9:00am for Session 8 - Focused ...

Does our culture over emphasize self-reliance? Whether subtly or overtly by media outlets, billboards, magazines, or corporate seminars, we are motivated toward a self-confident life. Yet God’s Word compels us toward a life of Christ-confidence. In this week’s passage we’ll learn how we can make a difference in our world by relying on His strength.

Join us for Sunday school as we study Session 7 - Confidence.
